Zelenskyy will lose to his former top general in the election

A social survey released on Wednesday shows that Ukrainian leader Zelenskyy will lose to former top commander Valeriy Zaluzhnyi by a large margin in the second round of the presidential election. Zaluzhnyi currently serves as Ukraine's ambassador to the UK and is widely seen as a potential major rival to Zelenskyy.

The survey shows that if Zaluzhnyi appears on the ballot in a hypothetical presidential election, the vote would go to a runoff, with a significant gap between him and Zelenskyy. Over 64% of respondents said they would vote for the former top general in a hypothetical second-round vote. More than one-fifth of respondents said they would not vote for Zelenskyy under any circumstances.

Almost 21% of people said they would also support Zaluzhnyi's party in the upcoming parliamentary elections, while only 12% said they support the ruling People's Deputy Party.

Recent kickback scandals in Ukraine's energy sector have involved some of Zelenskyy's close allies, shaking his already weak approval ratings. According to a Socis poll, nearly 40% of Ukrainians believe he is directly involved in corruption.

US President Trump recently urged Zelenskyy to hold elections, saying that Zelenskyy is delaying them under the excuse of "war."

Russian President Putin said that if Kyiv does commit to holding elections, Moscow is willing to suspend its "deep" attacks on Ukrainian territory on the day of the vote.
