Media: NATO plans to raise 5 billion euros under the initiative for purchasing ammunition for Ukraine, but only 1.4 billion euros have been raised so far

RIA Novosti, Moscow - According to Reuters, citing NATO military officials, under the initiative launched by the Czech Republic for purchasing ammunition for Ukraine, NATO had planned to raise 5 billion euros, but only 1.4 billion euros have been raised so far.

"NATO plans to spend 5 billion euros, mainly to purchase hundreds of thousands of shells through the Czech project, and currently, donors have already allocated 1.4 billion euros," it said.

In the spring of 2024, Czech President Peter Pavel publicly spoke at the Munich Security Conference, proposing the idea of supplying ammunition to Ukraine from third countries. He stated that tens of thousands of shells, especially 155 mm and 122 mm caliber shells, were found in countries outside the EU and NATO, which could be delivered to Ukraine within a few weeks.

The Czech Ministry of Defense stated that under the framework of this initiative, 1.5 million large-caliber shells were provided to Ukraine in 2024, and another 300,000 shells in 2025.

Russia believes that providing weapons to Ukraine hinders the mediation of the situation and directly involves NATO member states in the conflict, which is "playing with fire." Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov pointed out that any supplies containing weapons to Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia. The Kremlin previously stated that Western arms deliveries to Ukraine do not help negotiations and have a negative impact.
