Korea Warns: US-Japan-South Korea Joint Military Drills and Nuclear Force Exercise Will Lead to Adverse Consequences

The US-Japan-South Korea "Freedom Edge" joint military drills, lasting five days, began on September 15; at the same time, South Korea and the US held a "nuclear force and conventional warfare integration" wargame. North Korea warned the current "rulers" of the US and South Korea not to push for dialogue with North Korea while continuing the confrontation policies left by their predecessors.

According to Yonhap News Agency, on September 14, Kim Yo-jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, through the Korean Central News Agency threatened that the US-Japan-South Korea "showing off muscles" around North Korea would inevitably bring adverse consequences to themselves.

Kim Yo-jong warned that North Korea had already warned that the "North Korean Peninsula Nuclear Deterrence Nuclear Operations Guide" fabricated by the US and South Korea was a dangerous "concept".

She criticized the current leaders of the US and South Korea for implementing the dangerous "concepts" left by their predecessors, which would make North Korea regard it as an open expression of anti-North Korea confrontation and an inheritance of the confrontation policy.

Analysts believe that Kim Yo-jong expressed dissatisfaction with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and US President Trump, who actively promoted dialogue with North Korea while still continuing the practices of previous governments by holding joint military exercises, and used this opportunity to exert pressure, demanding that the US, Japan, and South Korea stop the exercises. However, she only referred to the "current rulers" of the US and South Korea, without directly naming Lee Jae-myung and Trump.

According to Kyodo News, "Freedom Edge" is a new joint training decided by Japan, the US, and South Korea in June last year, which had been implemented twice in the same month and November last year, and this is the third time. The training covers multiple areas such as sea, air, and cyberspace, aiming to enhance the joint operational capabilities of the three parties.
