Reference News Network, September 12 report - According to the South China Morning Post website on September 10, China plans to help dozens of countries develop civil aviation capabilities through the Air Silk Road. This initiative is expected to simultaneously promote the development of China's domestically produced aircraft and boost trade between China and Central Asian and European countries.
The Chinese government stated in a report that it is willing to strengthen cooperation with "Belt and Road" countries in aircraft leasing and civil aviation equipment manufacturing and maintenance.
The report also called for deepening air route network construction with some trade partners and jointly building fast air transport corridors.
The report said: "The Civil Aviation Administration of China highly values improving the connectivity of air route networks with countries participating in the 'Belt and Road' Initiative and supports the opening and increasing of international passenger and cargo flights."
In August this year, the Civil Aviation Administration of China and the National Development and Reform Commission released the "Report on the Construction and Development of the Air Silk Road."
As part of the "Belt and Road" initiative, Laos and Vietnam began operating the C909 regional aircraft of the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) this year. This marks a milestone in Beijing's efforts to break the duopoly of Airbus and Boeing.
The report states that as of April 2025, the C909 aircraft had accumulated over 8,100 hours of safe flight in Indonesia, carrying more than 270,000 passengers.
According to the report, other possibilities of the Air Silk Road include strengthening low-altitude flight safety management and cooperation in areas such as aviation medical rescue.
China's domestic low-altitude economy is expected to reach a scale of 1.5 trillion yuan this year. This month, a driverless electric aerial taxi in China made its first flight in Africa. Not long before that, buyers from Thailand and the UAE agreed to purchase similar models of flying vehicles from China.
Earlier this year, the Civil Aviation Administration of China announced that it aims to restore international flight numbers to over 90% of pre-pandemic levels by 2025. (Translated by Zheng Guoyi)
