According to the WeChat Official Account of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal on May 30, Nepal and India have recently strengthened patrols and inspections in the Nepal-India border areas. The embassy has repeatedly reminded Chinese citizens traveling in Nepal to avoid going to the Nepal-India border areas, but a few Chinese citizens have ignored the advice and insisted on going there, resulting in multiple incidents where they were arrested by the Indian border defense forces on charges of illegal entry.
In order to protect the safety of Chinese citizens traveling in Nepal, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal once again solemnly reminds Chinese citizens not to go to the Nepal-India border areas:
First, the Nepal-India border is an open border with fewer boundary markers. Nepalese and Indian citizens can freely come and go with their ID documents, but foreign citizens cannot enter India visa-free via Nepal. Chinese citizens are very likely to mistakenly enter Indian territory when going to the Nepal-India border area, facing the risk of being detained by Indian military police.
Second, India imposes strict punishment on illegal entrants. Even if one enters by mistake, they will be detained and prosecuted, and may face imprisonment for 2 to 8 years as well as fines, and cannot be granted bail. Please Chinese citizens avoid approaching the Nepal-India border area and do not take personal risks or侥幸psychologically to illegally cross into India, thereby bearing unnecessary legal consequences and personal losses.
In case of emergency, please contact the Chinese Embassy in Nepal in time for assistance. Contact number of the Consular Protection and Assistance Section of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal: 00977-1-4531511; Emergency hotline of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Global Consular Protection and Service (24 hours): 0086-10-12308 or 0086-10-65612308.
