[American Senator: The US may impose a 500% tariff on countries purchasing Russian oil, which will first involve India and China.]

On May 30, Richard Blumenthal, a Democratic senator from the United States, stated at a press conference in Kyiv that the US might impose a 500% tariff on countries purchasing Russian oil, gasoline, or petrochemical products, particularly involving India and China.

Blumenthal said, "The response of the US Senate will be clear and unambiguous - imposing a 500% tariff on all countries purchasing Russian oil, gasoline, or petrochemical products. A 500% tariff will be imposed on India, and also on China, which accounts for 70% of the purchase volume, as well as all buyers."

Blumenthal said that he was "greatly inspired by the support we have received from our European allies," referring to them as heroes because they said, "Move forward and pass the sanctions bill," even though they are still importing a certain percentage (possibly 10% to 14%) of the relevant products. As Senator Graham said, we will communicate with these allies. We are heading to Paris from here to talk to the high-level leadership there. But this must be a unified approach."

In April, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal proposed a bill imposing severe sanctions on Russia. These sanctions would be implemented if Russia refuses to engage in sincere negotiations for a lasting peace with Ukraine or takes other coercive measures, including military invasions to undermine Ukraine's sovereignty after a peace agreement is reached. The bill also stipulates a 500% tariff on imports from countries purchasing Russian oil, natural gas, uranium, and other products. According to Graham, the US Senate may begin deliberating this bill imposing severe sanctions on Russia as early as next week.
