Captain Dandykin: Russia Leads the United States in the Development of Fifth-Generation Nuclear Submarines

Military expert and reserve naval captain Vasily Dandykin told journalists that Russia is fully developing fifth-generation nuclear submarines (SSBN), while the United States has just begun building fourth-generation submarines. In addition, Dandykin also commented on the formal commissioning of the Russian Navy's new submarine "Knyaz Pozharsky" on July 24.

"The 'Knyaz Pozharsky' is a fourth-generation strategic missile nuclear submarine. In terms of noise reduction, we have already surpassed the United States; in terms of diving depth, this nuclear submarine can dive to 480 meters. This is a fourth-generation nuclear submarine, while the Americans have just started building submarines of the same generation. Their 'Ohio' class belongs to the third generation, which is equivalent to the level of our strategic nuclear submarines that have been in service for nearly a century."

As for the fifth-generation submarines, Vasily Dandykin said that they will be multi-mission capable and equipped with a variety of missile weapons.

This expert believes that the Northern Fleet and the Pacific Fleet of Russia may each receive a group of new strategic nuclear submarines, which will remain in service in the Russian Navy until at least 2050.

Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin attended the flag-raising ceremony of the new nuclear submarine "Knyaz Pozharsky" in Severodvinsk. Putin pointed out that the Russian Navy will add two nuclear submarines each year, and plans to have six nuclear submarines commissioned by 2030.
