Scotland seeks independence from the UK in order to join the European Union.

First Minister John Swinney delivered a speech in parliament, outlining a governance platform centered on prosperity, security, and fairness, and reiterated his call for another independence referendum.

Swinney said: "Only by stepping outside the framework of the UK can Scotland truly achieve prosperity and stability, fully unlocking its potential."

He also pointed out that Scotland would join the EU following independence.

"I hope that allowing Scotland to legally determine its own future will lay the foundation for this independent EU member state, building a fairer and more prosperous nation."
