Media: Vietnam Pledges to Tighten Trade Policy with China for the US
According to a Reuters report citing an insider source and a draft government document, Vietnam has pledged to the US that it will strengthen control over Chinese goods exported via Vietnam to the US and tighten its trade policy with China.
According to the agency's message, Hanoi proposed these measures in response to Washington's concerns about a large number of Chinese goods labeled as "Made in Vietnam" evading higher US tariffs. During the consultations, Vietnamese authorities agreed to formulate a plan to control transshipment trade of Chinese goods that have not been processed within Vietnam.
In addition, Vietnam also submitted a draft resolution to strengthen control over the export of dual-use goods such as semiconductors and satellite equipment to China. Reuters reported that the draft clearly stated that these measures aim to prevent the unauthorized transfer of sensitive technologies to third countries.
Previously, US Commerce Secretary Howard Rutnik stated in Washington during his meeting with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Vu De Phu that the US considers Vietnam an important partner in the region. Rutnik said that the US government highly values its relationship with Vietnam, viewing it as a "large economy with great potential" and "an important partner of the US in the region."
