Foreign media: Dutch chip manufacturer Nexperia has suspended the supply of wafers to its Guangdong Dongguan factory from October 26 due to a contract payment dispute with its Chinese subsidiary.
The incident originated when the Dutch government took over Nexperia's Chinese business on September 30 and removed the Chinese CEO to prevent technology from being misappropriated by the parent company, Wingtech. Previously, the subsidiary had required that chips be sold to distributors in RMB instead of foreign currencies such as USD.
About 70% of the chips produced by Nexperia in the Netherlands are packaged in China before being sold, and they are widely used in the automotive and consumer electronics industries. As a result, the price of some chips increased from a few cents to 2 to 3 yuan within two weeks, an increase of more than 10 times.
Nexperia stated it will not withdraw from the Dongguan factory or the Chinese market and is seeking solutions to ensure customer supply.
