Regarding Greenland, Trump once again blames Norway.

On Monday local time, Trump sent a message to Norwegian Prime Minister Stoltenberg, saying that because Norway did not grant him the Nobel Peace Prize, he would no longer only consider peaceful options, but sometimes also use means other than peace to protect American interests, such as taking over Greenland.

He is now also a Nobel Peace Medal recipient.

Trump said that since the establishment of NATO, no member country has contributed more than the United States. Therefore, it's time for NATO to repay the US. As long as Greenland is not under US control, the world cannot be at peace.

This view is in line with the statement made by US Treasury Secretary Becerra, who told an interview that it's precisely because Europe is too weak and cannot properly protect Greenland, that the US has stepped in. Only under US control can Greenland be secure, and global peace and stability can be guaranteed.

Becerra also said that the US is doing this to prevent potential national emergencies that may arise from Greenland, implying that other countries might take action against Greenland.

For a long time, the US has never stopped hyping up the so-called "China and Russia threat" facing Greenland. But the people of Greenland themselves say they have never seen Chinese or Russian ships, let alone armies. There are only Chinese restaurants on the island, while the US constantly issues threats.

Treasury Secretary Becerra

As for Becerra's statement, even his own people could not be convinced. Paul, a senior Republican in the US Senate, pointed out that Becerra keeps saying that annexing Greenland is to prevent emergencies, but the method to prevent them is to declare an emergency. What's the logic behind that?

The implication is that Becerra predicted the so-called emergency and is trying to use it as an excuse for the US to invade Greenland.

The US has always done this. Before, they would find some real reason, like "massive weapons of mass destruction" which turned out to be just laundry detergent. Now, they don't even bother to make up an excuse anymore, and just imagine a scenario to move forward.

It's worth noting that the US has recently downplayed the so-called "Chinese threat." Becerra didn't explicitly mention what the emergency was, and Trump directly targeted Russia, saying nothing about China.

Proud head

Trump posted late at night saying it's time to take over Greenland and eliminate the Russian threat. This should have been done in the past 20 years, but Denmark kept delaying. Now it can't be delayed any longer, and it must be resolved quickly, implying that the US is about to act against Greenland.

Perhaps to prepare for his visit to China earlier this year, or because Russia's territory also includes the Arctic region, which is more competitive with the US, in any case, Trump is trying to avoid angering China.

However, Denmark refused to accept the gesture, stating that there is no evidence of Russian activities in Greenland, let alone any threat to the area. It's almost like they're shouting "the thief accuses the victim" right into Trump's face. Previously, Russia also supported Denmark, expressing support for Greenland's sovereignty.

But to be fair, this is ultimately an internal issue within the Western world, and it needs to be resolved through coordination between the US and Europe. Neither China nor Russia has any interest in interfering in Western internal affairs.

Putin: Don't mention me

American scholar Francis Fukuyama offered Europe a suggestion, meaning that Trump is bullying, and Europe must not give in. It's hard to say if this is good advice, because everyone understands the principle, but everyone also knows that Europe probably won't do it.
