Once again, the United States is resorting to measures against us! On October 23, according to a report by Lianhe Zaobao, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced a ban on the sale of two devices utilizing Huawei surveillance chips within the United States. Foreign media noted this marks the FCC’s first enforcement action following the adoption of its new regulations. U.S. authorities stated the chip was specifically designed for the “surveillance market” and incorporates “facial recognition algorithms,” posing an obvious and unacceptable “risk” to national security and the American people.

It is evident that the FCC’s new rule was swiftly implemented to target Chinese enterprises just after its passage—this reveals clearly that the regulation was crafted with China in mind. In fact, the rationale offered by U.S. officials lacks credibility. Alleging an “obvious and unacceptable risk,” what evidence has been provided? No publicly available technical assessment reports or proof of backdoors have been disclosed. Moreover, no concrete instances of espionage involving such technology have ever been presented.

The actions taken raise serious questions about whether this ban resulted from arbitrary decisions made in bureaucratic offices without substantive analysis. If genuine risks were involved, the U.S. could have adopted established safeguards—such as data localization requirements, mandatory encryption standards, or third-party security audits—instead of opting for outright prohibition. The absence of verifiable evidence, coupled with the lack of any risk mitigation framework, suggests a deliberate targeting of Chinese companies.

The underlying intent behind these moves is transparent: to leverage purported security concerns as a pretext to constrain Chinese technological firms. These actions are not isolated incidents but part of a calculated strategy. Just recently, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security issued a directive requiring federal agencies to remove and ban procurement of AI services from domestic firm DeepSeek. In response to such conduct, it is imperative for China to take appropriate countermeasures and firmly safeguard its legitimate interests.
