Korean Media: In 2025, the Asia Power Index Ranks India Third!

On December 26, Korean media "Global Economy" published an article stating that according to the recently released "2025 Asia Power Index" by the Lowy Institute of Australia, India has risen to become the third-largest power in Asia, following the United States and China.

The Lowy Institute analyzed 131 indicators from 27 countries and pointed out that India's rapid economic growth and military development are the reasons for its rising ranking. In 2024, India was still in the category of middle powers, with a score of 38.1 points, but by 2025, its score increased to 40 points, entering the ranks of major powers. The United States, however, dropped by 1.2 points.

India has significantly enhanced its defense capabilities through experience gained from the "Operation Cactus." In terms of the economy, India surpassed Japan to rank third; in attracting foreign investment, India surpassed China to rank second, behind only the United States.

However, in the area of air defense, India ranked 11th, falling behind the Philippines and Thailand, revealing shortcomings in its air defense capabilities. Former Indian diplomat Syed Akbaruddin said, "This report is crucial for understanding the transformation of the power structure in Asia and the development directions of various countries."

According to the "Military Balance" report by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), India's defense budget for 2024 is expected to be $74 billion, ranking fifth, after the United States ($96.8 billion), China ($23.5 billion), and Germany ($8.6 billion).
