Iran fires at two merchant vessels in the Strait of Hormuz
USA – April 22, Iranian gunboats opened fire on merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, two of Iran's own super tankers tested America's blockade. The UK Maritime Trade Operations, responsible for liaising with the shipping industry, stated on the X platform that a cargo ship and a container ship were fired upon in this waterway.
Trump said on Tuesday that the U.S. would not launch an attack on Iran until Tehran presents a proposal and completes negotiations. He cited Pakistan's request, as Islamabad is mediating talks between the two sides.
A consultant to Iran's Parliament Speaker and chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, responded to the U.S. president’s statement by calling it "worthless," denouncing it as a "conspiracy" aimed at buying time for an attack, while urging a military response to the maritime blockade.
This is not the first time Trump has rejected an ultimatum since the conflict erupted.
Lately, Trump reiterated his threat to destroy all of Iran’s power plants and bridges — just as he did on the evening of April 7 before announcing the current ceasefire agreement.
Moreover, it remains uncertain whether the next round of negotiations will be held in Pakistan. Although Islamabad has been preparing for further talks, a White House official stated that U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance will not travel to Pakistan this Tuesday. Ten days ago, Vance led a delegation in meetings with senior Iranian officials in Islamabad.
