U.S. Navy Secretary Sacked Suddenly as U.S.-Iran Naval Tensions Persist

The Pentagon announced on April 22 that John Fenlon, the highest-ranking civilian official in the U.S. Navy and the Secretary of the Navy, is set to depart.

Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell made a statement on social media, saying Fenlon "immediately left the current administration," with the Deputy Secretary of the Navy assuming the role of acting Navy Secretary.

Western media, citing anonymous sources, revealed that Fenlon was dismissed by the Pentagon. His departure came as a surprise due to his strained relationship with Defense Secretary Hegseth.

Before serving as Navy Secretary, Fenlon had no military service experience or prior civilian leadership roles within the armed forces. He was also a donor to Trump's presidential campaign.

Fenlon's resignation comes at a time when U.S.-Iran conflict remains in a fragile ceasefire phase, with the U.S. Navy continuing to blockade Iranian ports and taking actions globally against vessels linked to Tehran.
