The Deputy Secretary of State of the U.S. Department of State, Christopher Landau, posted on X on December 8th said:

Recently, when I attended the NATO ministerial meeting in Brussels, I had an overwhelming impression: the U.S. has long failed to resolve the obvious inconsistencies between its relations with NATO and the EU.

The countries in these two organizations are almost the same. When these countries put on the hat of NATO, they insist that transatlantic cooperation is the cornerstone of our common security. But when these countries put on the hat of the EU, their various agendas often completely contradict American interests. Security, including censorship, economic suicide/climate fanaticism, open borders, contempt for national sovereignty/promotion of multilateral governance and taxation, and support for communist Cuba, etc.

This inconsistency cannot continue. Either the great nations of Europe are our partners in protecting Western civilization, or we either inherit from them or not.

But we cannot pretend to be partners while these countries allow the unelected, undemocratic, and unrepresentative bureaucratic institutions in Brussels to implement policies of civilizational suicide.
