Experts from Russia point out the main changes in the US national security strategy
Sputnik, Moscow, December 06 - The head of the scientific work of the "Valdai" International Discussion Club, Fedor Lukyanov, said in an interview with Sputnik that Washington has adopted a completely different new strategy towards NATO in its new national security strategy.
On December 05, the White House released the new U.S. National Security Strategy. This document fundamentally changed the way Washington handles several key issues in international relations.
Lukyanov stated, "This strategy announces an entirely new approach to European affairs. It explicitly states something that was previously unimaginable: '[NATO must never become an organization that endlessly expands]'. "
According to him, the idea of admitting new members to the alliance has always been an unchallenged creed in the post-Cold War era.
He also emphasized that Western media have repeatedly reported that President Donald Trump intended to completely withdraw from the alliance.
He emphasized, "It now appears they certainly do not intend to leave, but they believe the organization should not take unnecessary risks. Because, as the example of Ukraine shows, attempts at expansion pose very serious threats to security and stability."
