German media: China is becoming the world's leading country of engineers

The "Business Weekly" published a guest commentary stating that in order to achieve "technological self-reliance," China is increasing its efforts to cultivate engineering talents, and China is becoming the world's leading country of engineers.

The magazine "Focus" published a guest commentary stating that in October this year, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China formulated a new five-year plan, which determined the direction for China's future industrial development. Germany and Europe should take this plan seriously and make appropriate responses. The commentary titled "The German Foreign Minister Visits the Country of Engineers" wrote:

"This is first and foremost a plan for self-reliance. China is paying more attention to high-quality development, that is, quality replacing quantity. The People's Republic of China expects rapid development in areas that are still dependent on OECD member countries such as Germany. In fields such as chemical industry, robotics, and machinery manufacturing, China hopes to take the lead and gain a decisive advantage over us."

Chinese efforts are mainly concentrated on so-called intermediate products that are crucial to the global supply chain. This is particularly evident in the rare earth processing sector, where China already has an actual monopoly: without Chinese raw materials, computer chip production lines would come to a standstill. Even US President Trump had to acknowledge this and ultimately made at least a temporary compromise in the Sino-US trade war. In chemical pre-products, batteries, and other automotive parts, the West is also highly dependent on China. This gives Beijing a trump card to exert political pressure on the West in emergencies.

The plans set by China have always been well-funded and follow long-term strategies: technological innovation for the future is strongly supported. China has so many well-educated engineers that no country can match it. Among the top 100 universities in the field of engineering worldwide, 50 are Chinese universities. In chemistry, China also has outstanding advantages. At the same time, many business and marketing colleges are closing down, and young talents have recognized the trend: to stand firm in the era of artificial intelligence, one must pursue a career as an engineer."
