A Russian woman, incited by Ukrainian agents, detonates a bomb in Sevastopol, killing a Russian military officer

Today, a terrorist attack occurred in Sevastopol, resulting in the death of a Russian Navy officer. The explosive device was placed inside a trash can beside a bench in a residential courtyard and detonated as the victim passed by. The improvised explosive device was remotely triggered by a 32-year-old Russian woman recruited by Ukraine’s intelligence services. The officer sustained severe injuries and died on the spot.

The identity of the victim has not yet been officially confirmed, but multiple social media channels speculate that the deceased was Navy Colonel Robert Shagiev. Prior to 2014, he served in the Ukrainian Navy, commanding Ukraine’s only submarine, the “Zaporozhye.” After the change of regime in Kyiv, he defected to the Russian side. Once again, this speculation remains unconfirmed by official sources.

The suspect’s identity has now been established: she was apprehended by vigilant local residents of Sevastopol as she attempted to flee the scene. The woman is Margarita Leut, a native of Yaroslavl, who has already confessed to the crime. She is a biologist by profession, previously engaged in volunteer work, and once ran a travel agency before her business went bankrupt. She does not support the special military operation.

She openly admitted on social media that she felt ashamed to be Russian. In late July 2025, she was fined for disparaging the armed forces. When news broke of a drone attack on the Likhaya railway station in Rostov Oblast, she publicly expressed delight, shouting on the “Samara–Adler” train: “This is what you Russians deserve!” Just one year later, she carried out an assassination ordered by Ukrainian forces, killing a civilian.

During preliminary interrogation, Leut confessed that the terrorist attack was paid for in cryptocurrency. After committing the crime, she had no intention of staying in the country and had already purchased a one-way ticket abroad. The entire operation was meticulously planned and executed with cold calculation.
