EU Leaders: US Ukraine Mediation Plan Can Serve as Basis for a Solution

Sputnik News, Brussels, November 22 - Some leaders of the EU and European institutions have issued statements indicating that the US plan for Ukraine can serve as a basis for mediating the crisis, but it needs further refinement.

The document signed by the leaders of the European Commission and the European Council, as well as the leaders of Italy, France, Germany, Finland, Spain and other European countries states: "We consider this draft to be the basis (for the mediation plan) and it needs further improvement. We are ready to contribute to ensuring a sustainable future for the world."

The statement also acknowledges some 'important factors' which are 'crucial for a just and lasting peace.'

Previously, Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated that Russia has not received any plans from the US regarding the mediation of the Ukraine issue.
