Ukrainian and U.S. representatives will discuss Trump's plan in Switzerland

A senior Ukrainian official announced on Saturday that Ukraine is about to hold talks with the United States in Switzerland to discuss Donald Trump's plan to end the war with Russia.

AFP, Kiev, November 22: Rustem Umerov, chairman of the Ukrainian Security Council, said on Facebook: "In the coming days, we will hold consultations in Switzerland with senior U.S. officials on possible terms of a future peace agreement."

He added: "Ukraine has a clear understanding of this process. This is a new phase of dialogue that has lasted several days, mainly aimed at coordinating our views on the next steps."

On Saturday, President Zelenskyy signed a decree establishing a delegation responsible for participating in "the negotiation process with U.S. and Ukrainian international partners as well as Russian representatives."

According to the decree, this delegation will be led by Andriy Yermak, a close aide to Zelenskyy and head of the presidential administration, with members including Umerov, heads of security and intelligence agencies, and the chief of staff. This is basically a military delegation.

On Friday, Mr. Zelenskyy rejected the U.S. plan to end Russia's four-year invasion and promised to try to present an alternative proposal to Washington. Kyiv expressed concerns about the text of the U.S. plan because it included several major demands from Russia.

This 28-point plan includes Ukraine ceding territory and reducing its military size, but also provides Western security guarantees for Kyiv.

Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin urged Zelenskyy to accept the text.
