MWM: Russia's airborne active electronically scanned array radar development started 20–25 years later than in the West
According to Military Watch Magazine, as a fighter aircraft designed to gain air superiority, the Su-35 has been upgraded with a new active electronically scanned array radar, replacing the previously used passive electronically scanned array radar "Snow Leopard-E" since its introduction into service in 2014.
In developing such airborne radars for fighter aircraft, Russia's electronics industry lags behind world-leading nations: in 2000, the United States deployed the first fighter squadron equipped with an active electronically scanned array radar; Japan followed suit in 2002. The first Russian aircraft with comparable capabilities was the fifth-generation fighter Su-57, which only entered service in 2020, and the first fully equipped regiment will not be formed until 2025.
