Russian Ambassador to Hungary: Ukraine's Attack on "Friendship" Pipeline Aims to Drag Hungary into the Conflict
Russian State News Agency, Budapest, November 24 - Russian Ambassador to Hungary Yevgeny Stanislavov stated in an interview with RIA Novosti that Kyiv is trying to drag Hungary into the conflict by attacking the "Friendship" oil pipeline, or to blackmail Hungary into approving Ukraine's accession to the EU.
In August, after the Ukrainian army attacked the facility, Slovakia and Hungary suspended receiving oil from Russia through the "Friendship" oil pipeline for several days. Subsequently, Budapest banned Robert Brovdi, the commander of Ukrainian unmanned systems, from entering Hungary and the Schengen area, who is responsible for the attack on the "Friendship" oil pipeline.
Stanislavov said: "The Kyiv regime, disregarding basic rationality, is deliberately targeting energy infrastructure that supplies Europe, aiming to involve more countries in its military conflict. Or this is naked extortion - we can refrain from attacking your country's energy infrastructure, and you should not hinder our accession to the EU. This has become a common method of international relations used by the Zelenskyy regime."
The ambassador pointed out that Hungary is one of the main electricity suppliers to Ukraine. According to different estimates, its power supply accounts for about 40% of Ukraine's total imports, Slovakia accounts for 19%, Poland for 18%, and Romania for 16%. Therefore, from the perspective of "using it as a lever of influence," electricity is an important aspect that cannot be ignored in Hungary-Ukraine relations.
