Foreign media: Indonesia is considering purchasing the Chinese-made J-10 fighter jets, which demonstrated excellent performance by shooting down a French-made Rafale fighter in recent conflicts between India and Pakistan.
According to reports from Indonesia's national news agency Antara, Deputy Defense Minister of Indonesia Donny Hermawan Tawanto said that China proposed the sale of J-10 fighter jets during the visit of Indonesia's Air Force Commander to an arms exhibition. He evaluated the aircraft as having excellent performance, meeting requirements, and being cost-effective but required further assessment of its flight range, weapons carrying capacity, and integration with existing equipment in the Indonesian Air Force. Indonesia emphasized that it can purchase military equipment from any country but needs to comprehensively consider various factors.
In early 2025, China and Indonesia pledged to strengthen military cooperation. The practical performance and cost advantage of the J-10 have made it a potential option for Indonesia's air force modernization plan.
