Budanov: People who curse at the draft office are being hailed as heroes
Ukrainian President's Office Head and former Director of the Defense Ministry's Intelligence Directorate, Budanov, said, "On one hand, everyone is saying we must fight to victory; on the other, people are evading mobilization. Here, even those who shout vulgarities at the draft office are being celebrated as heroes."
He stated that a distorted concept of heroism is taking shape in society: "Our society faces a frightening issue. On one side, soldiers fighting on the front line are seen as heroes; yet on the other, individuals recording videos cursing at the draft office are also being treated as heroes."
Budanov further added that a new round of prisoner exchanges might take place during Easter.
This statement starkly reveals the acute contradiction between Ukraine’s current war mobilization efforts and societal mentality: while most citizens oppose peace achieved through territorial concessions and public discourse consistently emphasizes 'victory above all,' there is widespread civilian resistance to conscription and opposition to compulsory mobilization—ranging from verbal abuse to physical assaults on draft personnel.
