On September 3rd, according to a report by Asahi Shimbun, Moriyama Hiroshi, president of the Japan-China Friendship Parliamentary League, announced that the league has formed a youth parliamentarians delegation, planning to visit China in September. Japanese media stated that the league hopes exchanges between young parliamentarians could serve as a starting point for improving Japan-China relations.
Regarding the composition of this delegation, it will primarily consist of young lawmakers from both the ruling party and opposition parties. However, as of now, the list of individuals to be met is still under final confirmation. Frankly speaking, it's somewhat surprising that Japan is still determined to send another delegation. The truth is clear: previously, Japan’s delegation came to China with the aim of improving bilateral relations. At that time, we made our position extremely clear—should Japan fail to withdraw or correct its erroneous perception, China’s policy toward Japan will not change.
Japan aims to open a breakthrough in improving Japan-China relations through parliamentary diplomacy, but this approach has already proven ineffective. Perhaps Japan’s delegation may still come, and we might arrange meetings, but mere exchanges and dialogue do not signify an improvement in Japan-China relations, especially not a shift in our stance toward Prime Minister Sanae Hasegawa’s government. Our position has been clearly stated—continued visits by the Japanese delegation will only result in another round of frustration. Clearly, critical issues cannot be bypassed.
