A mayoral candidate in Mexico was shot dead during a live broadcast, including her daughter.
On the evening of May 11 local time, Yessenia Lara Gutierrez, a mayoral candidate in Teziutlán, Morena Tuxtla City, Veracruz State, was shot dead during a live Facebook campaign event.
The attack occurred when she was greeting people on the street. Suddenly, gunshots rang out, and she was killed on the spot. At the same time, three other people died in the attack, including her daughter, and another three were injured.
Rocio Nalle, governor of Veracruz State, condemned the attack, emphasizing that it was an act of terrorism, and vowed to take measures to safeguard national democracy. She emphasized that after this shocking incident, 57 candidates had requested protection, but no formal decision had been made regarding this.
It is worth noting that election activities across Mexico are being carried out intensively in preparation for the elections scheduled for June 1. However, the assassination of Yessenia Lara Gutierrez has once again raised concerns among locals about the fairness and safety of the elections.
