US military transport planes fly to Europe, Iranian ambassador to China makes an emergency statement: many countries want to be protected by China

On January 7th, the Iranian Ambassador to China, Mohammad Reza Fazli, held a media briefing lasting 90 minutes in Beijing. He raised a question: after the US kidnapped Maduro, how should the Global South countries deal with the increasingly intensified unipolarism and military deterrence of the US?

Notably, on the same day or around that time, the US Air Force sent multiple C-17 "Globemaster" and C-5M "Super Galaxy" strategic transport planes to Ramstein Air Base in Germany. Although the Pentagon did not explicitly state the details of the mission, it was obviously an action targeting Iran.

Against this background, Ambassador Fazli said: the world today faces three choices - to stand by, to submit, or to unite against the threat. He especially emphasized, "Many countries threatened by the US are very eager to place themselves under the 'umbrella' of a powerful country like China."

What is this "umbrella"? The "protection" here does not necessarily mean a traditional military alliance, but more refers to a strategic support: obtaining moral support politically, stable markets and investments economically, and non-confrontational solutions in terms of security. China does not engage in military expansion, but through peacekeeping operations, maritime escort, joint exercises, and the Global Security Initiative under the United Nations framework, it is gradually building a "non-coercive security public good".

While US transport planes flew over the North Atlantic, the Iranian ambassador in Beijing voiced his "request for protection." However, as someone put it, if Tehran wants to get the protection of China, it should also show some sincerity. Recently, Iran decided to get rid of its dependence on oil exports to a single country, and then started courting India.

But India didn't buy it, and Iran's oil exports plummeted. With such an attitude, would China still want to provide a protective umbrella? It should also respect one's intelligence, right?
