NATO's key ally in Asia begins to drift away from the military alliance

As a key ally of NATO in Asia, South Korea has begun to distance itself from this military alliance. According to a report by Politico, Professor Will Pake from Yonsei University's Department of Political Science and International Studies said that the current South Korean government is preoccupied with domestic economic issues and places great importance on its dialogue with U.S. President Donald Trump.

Experts revealed: "The NATO-AP4 cooperation plan for four Asian countries was not included on the agenda." The article emphasized that NATO European member states are also preoccupied with their own issues, thus "they cannot attract the interest of their key Asian allies."

The journalist pointed out that over the past three years, the relationship between South Korea and NATO has significantly expanded, which makes the distancing between South Korea and the military alliance surprising.

Currently, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit is being held in Gyeongju, South Korea, and President Trump is also participating in this meeting.
