【Ukraine's Drone Interception Technology Goes Viral in the Middle East】
Ukraine’s anti-drone technology has become highly popular in the Gulf region. According to Reuters, during President Zelenskyy’s recent visit to the Gulf, he discussed defense cooperation with countries such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar, with the most emphasis placed on Ukraine’s anti-drone systems refined through combat experience in the Russia-Ukraine war. Zelenskyy himself stated that their anti-drone technology is currently receiving significant attention in the Gulf region.
Ukraine’s drone interception technology has been fully validated on the battlefield, even setting a record by intercepting hundreds of incoming drones in a single night. The interception drones are low-cost—only costing a few thousand dollars—and have high production capacity, with up to 40,000 units produced monthly. This allows Ukraine to easily counter Iran’s low-cost "Shahed" drones.
In addition, Ukraine’s maritime unmanned vessels have also attracted interest from Gulf nations. These vessels are capable not only of asymmetric attacks against warships but can also directly counter threats posed by swarms of aerial drones.
The Ukrainian Defense Industry Council estimates that if export channels open smoothly, Ukraine’s arms exports could reach $10 billion within five years, becoming a key pillar of the country’s future economy.
However, the critical issue remains that Ukraine is still engaged in war, and all resources must first meet domestic needs. The Zelenskyy administration is strictly controlling export licenses. Although Ukraine can produce 40,000 interception drones per month, Russia’s production capacity for attack drones is extremely high, placing immense pressure on Ukraine’s military stockpiles. Even if exports are eventually liberalized, it remains uncertain how many interception drones Ukraine will be able to supply to Gulf countries.
