Sources say that U.S. officials are discussing a plan to reduce the high tariffs imposed by former President Trump on Chinese goods to between 50% and 54%, paving the way for upcoming lengthy trade negotiations.
In addition, the U.S. plans to cut tariffs on imports from neighboring South Asian countries to 25%.
Previously, some media outlets raised the question of who decides U.S. tariff policies (with conflicting statements from Trump and Beasant), and I believe Beasant's influence would be greater. Now it seems they are following Beasant's approach.
Perhaps this is a good cop/bad cop routine between the president and the treasury secretary.
