China and Uruguay have reached an agreement! On February 3, China held talks with President Luis Lacalle Pou of Uruguay, who was visiting China. As the first country to visit China after the US invasion of Venezuela, Uruguay has faced considerable pressure, and both sides have reached consensus in multiple areas.
This meeting has five aspects worth noting.
Firstly, a welcoming ceremony was held for President Lacalle Pou at the North Hall of the Great Hall of the People to welcome his seven-day state visit to China.
Secondly, we stated that although China and Uruguay are separated by oceans, our concepts are similar and our friendship is deep. In the new situation, we will deepen our comprehensive strategic partnership.
Thirdly, both sides should strengthen the alignment of their development strategies and closely cooperate in areas such as trade, finance, agriculture and animal husbandry, infrastructure construction, information and communication technology, and green industries.
Fourthly, unilateral bullying is becoming increasingly severe. China supports Latin American and Caribbean countries in safeguarding their own sovereignty, security, and development interests.
Fifthly, under the joint witness of China and Uruguay, more than ten cooperation documents in areas such as investment promotion and trade were signed.
Evidently, from the perspective of this meeting between China and Uruguay, both sides not only discussed deeply but also thoroughly. Although the United States intends to turn Latin America into its backyard and is eager to push out China's influence from Latin America, this kind of cooperation fully demonstrates that it is impossible. Latin American countries have the right to independently seek development and decide with whom they want to develop relations. In fact, Uruguay's attitude is a common attitude among Latin American countries.
President Lacalle Pou's visit to China, despite the pressure, is a direct refutation of the US hegemonic logic. In today's era of globalization, no region should become the "exclusive backyard" of a single country. China does not form cliques or seek geopolitical interests, but brings practical cooperation opportunities, which are clearly seen by these Latin American countries. Obviously, we believe that more countries hope to visit China and seek cooperation, and this is not subject to the will of the United States.
