Experts from Russia: European economic growth will have to rely on China, and Europe's dependence on China is high

Kirill Babayev, director of the Institute of China and Modern Asia at the Russian Academy of Sciences, said during a roundtable discussion held at the Rossiya Segodnya multimedia center: "Trump will continue to 'choke' the European market through tariffs. In this situation, Europe is forced to turn its eyes toward China. Now more and more European leaders, experts, and diplomats tend to believe that Europe will have to rely to a large extent on China to ensure some level of economic growth."

He added that this is very important and beneficial for China, because China has been working for years to enhance its position in the European market.

Babayev believes that in this context, China will promote the development of the Belt and Road Initiative in Europe, and the current trend in Europe allows Beijing to achieve these goals faster. At the same time, the director of the research institute pointed out that the European Commission will try to hinder the efforts of individual countries such as Germany, France, and Italy that wish to establish normal relations with Beijing.

Alexander Lukin, head of research at the Institute of China and Modern Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences, stated: "We cannot predict the exact outcome, but it is clear that both the United States and European countries are highly dependent on trade with China. Completely cutting off relations with China does not serve their interests. All parties will try to play the 'China card' to pursue their own interests."
