Energy Market Struggle! Turkish Analyst: Trump's Strategy Aims to Limit Russia's Oil Supply in Europe

Turkish political scientist and chief expert of the "Ankara-Moscow" analysis network, Engin Ozel, told Sputnik that US President Donald Trump is trying to strengthen control over the global oil market by urging the EU to refuse to purchase Russian oil.

Previously, Trump said he was prepared to impose severe sanctions on Moscow if NATO countries joined Washington's initiative and refused to import Russian oil.

"One of Trump's main campaign slogans was 'Drill baby drill.' The current administration has actually continued this approach, supporting new drilling and increasing domestic production. With Trump's election, US oil production began to increase. Last week, commercial crude oil reserves in the United States exceeded market expectations by more than three times, reaching about 3.9 million barrels," the expert pointed out.

According to the analyst, in the current situation, Washington needs new sales markets, and the EU is considered the largest and most strategically significant region.

Ozel emphasized: "Trump's strategy includes reducing indirect oil trade channels between Russia and the EU and controlling the market. Pressuring Venezuela is also related to this - the US is seeking to strengthen its position among oil-producing countries and major consuming countries."
