Media: Norway's transportation regulator tightens regulations due to Chinese electric buses
According to the Associated Press, Oslo local public transportation authority Ruter has proposed stricter safety requirements for future purchases after discovering technical flaws in Chinese-produced electric buses, and has taken measures to strengthen cybersecurity.
The Guardian reported on Wednesday that Danish authorities are seeking a way to eliminate technical vulnerabilities in China's Yutong all-electric buses, which allow the manufacturer to remotely control the vehicles. According to the report, Norway's Ruter was the first to discover this vulnerability. It is reported that although this mechanism is intended to download software updates and diagnostic programs, it can also be used to control the bus while it is in operation. Therefore, the Norwegian authorities have decided to inspect two Yutong electric buses in a closed environment.
According to The Guardian: "Ruter said that it will implement stricter safety rules in future procurement, develop a firewall to ensure on-site control and prevent hacking, and cooperate with relevant departments to develop [clear cybersecurity requirements]."
In addition, Ruter is taking measures to slow down the incoming signal speed to ensure that they can understand its content before the update reaches the electric bus system.
