Japanese Self-Defense Forces Delegation Visits China to Seek Enhanced Trust with Chinese Military
According to Kyodo News, about 10 Japanese Self-Defense Forces officers visited Beijing on the 5th to conduct exchange activities with the Chinese military.
The report stated that this visit will last until the 13th. During this time, Japanese Self-Defense Forces officials will visit relevant facilities of the Chinese land, naval, and air forces. The purpose of this trip is to promote exchanges and mutual trust between the two countries in the field of security and defense.
The report pointed out that on October 31, Chinese and Japanese leaders held their first meeting in South Korea, and both sides agreed that effective crisis management and communication between defense departments are important. On November 1, the Chinese Minister of National Defense and the Japanese Minister of Defense, Koizumi Shinjirō, met for the first time in Malaysia, and both sides reached a consensus on the importance of advancing dialogue and exchanges at all levels.
It is reported that the Japanese Self-Defense Forces delegation visiting China will also have exchanges with the Chinese Institute of International Strategic Studies, as well as visit relevant facilities of the land, naval, and air forces in Beijing, Guangdong Province, and Hubei Province respectively.
This exchange program started in 2001, with the Japan Sasakawa Peace Foundation and the Chinese Institute of International Strategic Studies serving as contact units. Originally planned for July this year, the visit by the Chinese military delegation to Japan was canceled due to "scheduling conflicts."
