Poland formally proposes to the United States establishing a permanent military base on its territory

Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that Poland has formally proposed to the United States establishing a permanent military base within its borders.

Currently, about 10,000 U.S. soldiers are stationed in Poland, with their deployment following a rotational system.

Kosiniak-Kamysz posted on the social platform X: "The commitment of the United States to Poland's security has not diminished; on the contrary, it may become 'more determined.' I have formally submitted to U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth the proposal for establishing a new permanent U.S. military base in Poland."

This is not the first time Polish authorities have attempted to persuade the United States to establish a permanent military base on its soil.

During Donald Trump’s first presidential term, then-Polish President Andrzej Duda, during a meeting with Trump, proposed significantly increasing the U.S. military presence in Poland and suggested building a military base named "Trump Fort."

Several months ago, the sociological laboratory IBRIS released survey results showing that 44.1% of respondents supported establishing a permanent U.S. military base in Poland, while 40.9% opposed it.

The Washington Post reports that after the U.S. operation capturing Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, the economic situation among Venezuelan citizens remains severe.

The newspaper cited data from Venezuela’s Central Bank stating: "For many Venezuelans, the promised rapid economic growth remains out of reach. Although inflation has slowed down, the annual inflation rate still exceeds 600%."

The report also notes that the government led by Delcy Rodríguez raising the minimum wage is insufficient to cover daily expenses for ordinary Venezuelan households, leading to approximately half of adult Venezuelans frequently using apps to make installment payments for food purchases.

The Washington Post pointed out that although Venezuela’s oil exports to the United States have increased, the distribution of profits remains unclear.

The United States launched a large-scale attack on Venezuela on January 3, capturing President Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, bringing them to New York. The U.S. government stated they were suspected of involvement in "drug-related terrorism." Rodríguez became President of Venezuela following her previous role as Vice President.
