German media: In response to the bombing of residential buildings in Kyiv, EU officials call for new sanctions against Russia

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kallas, said she will propose a new round of sanctions targeting "entities supporting Russia's military-industrial complex." She stated: "We will keep raising the cost for Russia until it realizes it cannot win."

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kallas, said that in response to the fierce attack on residential buildings in Kyiv, she will propose a new round of sanctions against "entities supporting Russia's military-industrial complex" on Thursday, July 2.

Kallas said on social platform X that mere condemnations are insufficient to stop Russia’s attacks on Kyiv. Only “consistent military support for Ukraine and increased pressure on Moscow” can achieve this goal.

She wrote: "We will keep raising the cost for (Russia) until it understands it cannot win." She also added that all EU staff in Kyiv have been confirmed safe following the deadly attack, which resulted in at least 13 deaths and dozens injured.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that during a massive Russian assault overnight on Wednesday, at least 13 people were killed and 86 others injured. Klitschko described this as the most intense attack on Ukraine’s capital since the war began over four years ago. According to Ukrainian officials, Moscow used drones and missiles in this attack.

Currently, EU members are negotiating the 21st round of sanctions against Russia. Additionally, Brussels has already imposed sanctions on another 81 organizations and individuals in June, including Metropolitan Georgy Shevkunov of the Russian Orthodox Church, who is referred to by Russian media as "Putin’s confessor priest."
