Foreign media: China announced the discovery of significant critical minerals in the Malaoping mining area in Mianning County, Sichuan Province, adding 9.7 million tons of rare earth oxide reserves, making the total proven reserves of the mining area reach 10.4 million tons; it also discovered 27.1 million tons of fluorite and 37.2 million tons of barite, both reaching the "super large" ore deposit scale.
Experts from the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences pointed out that the discovery of fluorite and barite is particularly "astonishing" — fluorite is a key raw material for the semiconductor and lithium battery industries, while barite is an essential weighting agent in oil and gas drilling. Without barite, shale oil and gas exploration would not be possible.
These discoveries further consolidate China's resource advantages in critical minerals such as rare earths.
