Qatar says Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire
Russian State News Agency, Moscow, October 19 - According to the Qatari Foreign Ministry, Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed to an immediate ceasefire during talks in Doha.
The Qatari Foreign Ministry said on its social media platform X account: "During the negotiations, both sides agreed to an immediate ceasefire."
Earlier reports stated that a crucial round of talks between Pakistan and the Taliban was scheduled to begin in Doha on October 17.
Pakistani-Afghan armed conflict began at night on October 14, with fighting breaking out along the Durand Line, which is not recognized by Kabul as the border between the two countries.
Subsequently, the Pakistani military launched strikes against terrorist groups' positions inside Afghanistan in retaliation for an attack on a checkpoint in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province's Gomal district in northwestern Pakistan.
On October 15, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry announced that Pakistan had reached an agreement with Afghanistan to temporarily cease hostilities for 48 hours following the recent border clashes between the two countries.
On the evening of October 16, Pakistani Prime Minister Shabaz Sharif said that Pakistan is willing to negotiate with Afghanistan and is waiting for action from Kabul.
