US submits bill to restore the "Jackson-Vanik Amendment" anti-Russia law to Congress for review

Russian State News Agency, Washington, September 11 - U.S. House Representative Joe Wilson said that a bill to restore the "Jackson-Vanik Amendment" anti-Russia law has been submitted to Congress for review, attempting to prevent any trade with Russia.

Wilson wrote on the social media platform X: "After the attack on Poland, I was honored to have the opportunity to submit the restoration of the anti-Russia 'Jackson-Vanik Amendment,' which can terminate any trade. President Obama and John Kerry canceled this law during the period of erroneous re-start of relations with Russia."

The U.S. Congress approved it in 1974, and President Gerald Ford signed the "Jackson-Vanik Amendment" that restricted trade with the Soviet Union.

Although the effectiveness of the act was declared suspended after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, it actually continued to be in effect. After nearly half a century, former U.S. President Obama abolished this amendment.
