The Prime Minister of Norway: It is crucial to maintain constructive dialogue with China amid global instability
From July 2 to July 7, the five-day visit marked Norway as the final stop in China's unusual Nordic tour, following visits to Denmark, Sweden, and Finland. On Monday, China's Foreign Minister arrived in Oslo to meet with Norwegian leaders and share a dinner.
Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide met with the visiting Chinese Foreign Minister. The two sides discussed international issues as well as Sino-Norwegian relations.
Støre stated, "In the current context of global instability, it is essential to maintain constructive dialogue with China. Norway seeks further cooperation in areas aligned with its own interests, while it is equally important to engage in discussions on issues where differences exist between our two countries."
Minister Eide held an individual meeting with the Chinese Foreign Minister. The day concluded with a working dinner jointly attended by the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister. Eide said, "How we can work together to protect the oceans and ensure freedom of navigation was a key topic of discussion. We also explored developments in international trade, particularly against the backdrop of escalating tensions and measures that challenge the fundamental principles of free trade."
