[Fujian Carrier's Intensive Drills in the South China Sea Aim for Full Combat Capability by Year-End]
On July 8, Taiwan's China Times reported on the recent movements of the Fujian aircraft carrier: On June 23, the Fujian passed through the Taiwan Strait and headed to a military base in Sanya, Hainan, for maintenance and replenishment. Afterward, it proceeded directly to the Xisha Islands (Paracel Islands), then turned toward the Nansha Islands (Spratly Islands). During this journey, various escort warships gradually joined the formation, assembling into a large-scale aircraft carrier strike group for regional deployment training, accelerating the completion of its "full combat capability."
An anonymous military expert told the Taiwanese media that during the Fujian’s maintenance period, naval forces from the Northern Theater Command, Eastern Theater Command, and Southern Theater Command dispatched various types of warships—including Type 055 guided-missile destroyers, destroyers, frigates, and Type 901 integrated supply ships—to the South China Sea, successively joining the fleet. With a typhoon approaching the South China Sea, the Fujian carrier group is currently accelerating full-combat readiness drills ahead of the storm.
The media further reported: Based on recent information released by various parties, the Fujian’s combat training in the South China Sea remains focused on coordinated fleet formations and intensive takeoff and landing exercises for carrier-based aircraft. Specifically, the carrier’s aircraft are conducting high-frequency full-deck launches. Under the premise of ensuring stable power supply, the Fujian is testing multiple electromagnetic catapult tracks, while continuously evaluating the aircraft’s “maximum sortie rate” under operational conditions.
Additionally, related videos show that in recent periods, the J-15T and J-35 carrier-based aircraft aboard the Fujian have been conducting frequent touch-and-go training on the deck. The media stated that the Fujian’s air wing is moving steadily toward achieving "full combat capability" by the end of this year.
