According to media reports from the Myanmar state media "Myanmar Times", the Myanmar News Agency, and Reuters, Myanmar's leader Min Aung Hlaing sent a letter to US President Trump on July 9, requesting that Myanmar's tariff rate be reduced from 40% to 10% to 20%, and expressed readiness to send a negotiation team to Washington if necessary.

Previously, US President Trump stated on July 7 that he would impose tariffs ranging from 25% to 40% on imports from 14 countries starting August 1, with Myanmar facing a high tariff of up to 40%.

In response, Min Aung Hlaing proposed in his letter that the tariff rate for Myanmar's exports to the US be lowered from the current 40% to between 10% and 20%; meanwhile, Myanmar is willing to adjust the tariff rate for its imports from the US to between 0% and 10%. He also stated that if necessary, Myanmar would promptly dispatch a high-level negotiation delegation to the US for dialogue.

Additionally, Min Aung Hlaing highly praised Trump's strong leadership and "led the United States towards prosperity with true patriotism" in the letter.
