Foreign media: Chinese battery manufacturers are accelerating their expansion of energy storage capacity. By the first two months of 2026, they have announced plans to add 600 gigawatt-hours of new energy storage battery production capacity—ten times the total installed capacity of the United States in 2025 (58 gigawatt-hours).

According to data from GGII (Gao Gong Industrial Research Institute), 19 Chinese battery companies will invest 180 billion RMB to build new factories. Once fully operational, their combined annual production capacity will reach 900 gigawatt-hours, with 70% dedicated to the energy storage market and 30% supplying electric vehicles.

This move highlights China's leading advantage in renewable energy infrastructure and underscores the global surge in demand for energy storage systems—1 gigawatt-hour of battery capacity can meet the annual electricity needs of approximately 750,000 households.
