Peruvian President Boluarte is impeached by Congress

The Peruvian Congress held a special plenary session on October 9 local time, voting to approve the impeachment motion against President Boluarte, removing her from the presidency.

The reason for the impeachment is that the government led by Boluarte has failed to curb crime.

Boluarte has served as Vice President of Peru since 2021. In December 2022, then-President Pedro Castillo attempted to dissolve Congress and was impeached and removed from office by Congress. Boluarte took the oath to become president.
