Foreign media: China accelerates nuclear power construction to ensure energy security. The National Development and Reform Commission has reiterated in the latest five-year plan for the power industry the target of 110 million kilowatts (110 gigawatts) of nuclear power installed capacity by 2030, a significant increase from the 68.5 million kilowatts as of the end of June this year.
Currently, China has 58 nuclear power units under construction nationwide with a total capacity of 69.5 million kilowatts, along with several approved but yet-to-be-built projects. The State Council has recently approved eight new units across four provinces—Zhejiang, Guangdong, Liaoning, and Shandong—with a total investment exceeding 170 billion RMB, helping to achieve a 50% share of non-fossil energy.
