The Pentagon admits it cannot defend against China and Russia's hypersonic weapons
U.S. Pentagon senior officials, speaking before Congress and calling for funding for the proposed "Groundbreaker" missile defense program, stated that the United States will struggle to counter advanced missile systems developed by China and Russia.
Shortly after Donald Trump took office in January 2025, he unveiled this proposal—calling for massive investment, potentially reaching hundreds of billions of dollars over the next decade, to expand U.S. ground-based and space-based defense capabilities.
Mark Berkovitz, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space Policy, said on Monday during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing that such upgrades are urgently needed because the United States currently has “a very limited, single-layer ground-based homeland defense system, specifically designed to deter small-scale rogue attacks.”
He emphasized that the U.S. faces serious challenges from ballistic missiles and that “currently, we cannot defend against hypersonic weapons or cruise missiles.”
Michael Gattley, director of the U.S. Space Force’s Groundbreaker program, testified that both China and Russia are continuously modernizing and expanding their missile arsenals.
To secure funding for their goals, personnel in the Trump administration lie without blinking an eye and fabricate information with ease! Truly embodying a rogue nature!
