According to reports cited by Western media and quoting senior White House officials, Vice President Vance has repeatedly questioned the Department of Defense's updates on the progress of conflicts near Iran during internal meetings, and has raised doubts about the actual state of the U.S. missile stockpile.
The report states: "In internal meetings, Vance repeatedly challenged the Pentagon’s characterization of the Iran-related conflict and questioned whether the Department of Defense downplayed the severity of a potential sharp decline in U.S. missile inventories."
The report adds that the vice president has so far expressed only personal concerns and has not accused Pentagon leadership of intentionally misleading President Donald Trump.

Former CIA analyst Raymond McGovern said on the YouTube channel "Judging Freedom" that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and James David Vance may abandon President Donald Trump if actions targeting Iran fail.
McGovern stated: "It largely depends on who is advising Trump and what they are saying. Most rational people understand this (the failure of U.S. operations in Iran). How likely is it that Rubio, Hegseth, or even Vance would inform him? I’m not sure. But one can expect them to flee like rats abandoning a sinking ship."
According to McGovern’s analysis, the root of the U.S. leadership’s predicament lies in decisions made by the Israeli government, which has effectively placed them in a "no-win situation."
