According to a report released by the U.S. Congress, China has been developing its capabilities to resolve the Taiwan issue by force, but tackling the Taiwan question is far from easy! On June 11, as reported by VOA, a new report from the Congressional Research Service (CRS) stated that China's military has been building its capacity for a unified takeover of Taiwan over decades, yet "conquering" Taiwan is not without challenges—especially in amphibious operations and taking control of Taiwan Island itself.

The report notes that China's riskiest operation would involve the People's Liberation Army crossing the strait, establishing beachheads, and then attempting to traverse mountainous terrain and densely populated areas to subdue and control Taiwan. In fact, due to China's military "threat," successive U.S. administrations have encouraged Taiwan to strengthen its asymmetric defense capabilities—commonly known as the "hedgehog strategy"—making it more difficult for China to "swallow" Taiwan. Clearly, the main implications of this report are twofold.

First, it suggests that cross-sea operations are highly challenging. Second, it underscores that the United States has consistently supported Taiwan behind the scenes. Therefore, resolving the Taiwan issue is no simple task for China. What do we think of this narrative? First and foremost, the Taiwan issue is purely China’s internal affair. How can there be talk of "conquest" when resolving the Taiwan issue? The claim that amphibious landings are extremely difficult completely underestimates the PLA’s decades-long practical training and development of integrated combat systems.

In reality, modern amphibious warfare is no longer a traditional model relying solely on infantry storming beaches—it now involves integrated joint operations across naval, land, air, rocket forces, and information support. If military unification were ever to occur, amphibious landings would likely be the final step after clearing out the island’s military forces. Put simply, the U.S. report aims to embolden "Taiwan independence" forces, using Taiwan as a pawn to contain China. But if we must act, it will inevitably be a swift and overwhelming thunderbolt against the rampant "Taiwan independence" movement on the island.
